Mutual Topics of Interest and Hosting the BLHA AGM and Conference 2018

Dear Society, Trust or Group Contact
At BLHA Committee meetings, planning for future events is a regular discussion point.  Arrangements are well in hand for the Spring 2017 event; AGM and Conference; and plans for the Autumn 2017 event.  We are also looking at the planning and interest that there is among member societies for the two events detailed below and would very much appreciate you raising these with your committee.
1)          Mutual Topics of Interest

We know that being a member of the BLHA is a great way to meet other historians, enthusiasts, and societies and learn more about Bedfordshire’s history.
Another benefit of BLHA membership is the opportunity to meet other Society’s officers, to discuss issues of mutual interest and to learn how others do things. So,
IF YOU ARE

a Society Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Programme Secretary, or committee member
WOULD YOU

like to meet people from other societies in Bedfordshire to discuss topics of interest?
SUCH AS:
programmes: compiling, production, distribution, etc
venues for meetings: availability and cost
society finances: membership fees, meeting fees, raffles
speakers: availability, performance, cost
publicity for your activities: websites, posters, Facebook, Streetlife, etc
how to reach new members
visits: organisation, transport, venues

THEN:

you might be interested in attending an informal meeting hosted by BLHA to discuss these matters in working groups to pool the knowledge available.
SO:
if you are interested, contact:
Colin West, at colinjohnwest4@gmail.com
by 28 February 2017.

2)          Hosting the BLHA AGM and Conference

The BLHA AGM and Conference is the main event in our calendar.  In 2016 Sharnbrook were the hosts of a very successful conference, 2017 will see the Bedford Architectural, Archaeological and Local History Society continuing the tradition of hosting this popular event.

Please consider whether your society could host a future conference in 2018, or perhaps in a year or two.  Perhaps you have a significant anniversary, a major publication launch or would simply like to showcase your group.

To see some past conferences please go to:

We would very much to be able to announce the hosts for 2018 at our next conference in June 2017. Should you wish to discuss hosting the conference then please contact:

Mollie Foster 01234 350353, or Clive Makin 01582 655785

Alternatively, please email:
Clive Makin, at clive.makin@ntlworld.com by 28 February 2017.

Thank you in advance for your support.
